Working for Lucite International

Working for Lucite International

Melanie Jury

Cassel Site Director

Q. How long have you been at Lucite International?
A. I began working in the group of businesses in 1989, and for the acrylics businesses in 1993.

Q. Describe working for the Company in three words
A. Supportive, challenging, improvement.

Q. What do you do in your role on a day to day basis?
A. Lead the strategic direction of the site, to ensure we have a sustainable future. Much of my time is spent working with the leadership team, so I can have one to one meetings with them, or meetings where we discuss options for substantial Capital investment, recruitment needs, technology development, SHE and production issues, business performance, wider company requirements, people development and succession etc.

Q. What has your training and development been like?
A. Structured at the start (first 5 years) with formal leadership and technical programmes. Then more exposure to different situations through doing different roles in different environments, which was about learning in role.  Further very formal training and external accreditation in SHE leadership, and more recently the Company Senior Leadership Development Programme which was excellent and I still use.

Q. How would you describe the work environment and Company culture?
A. It is inherently a friendly and supportive environment. It is also very professional with some really very knowledgeable and committed people. People want the site to be here in the future and there is passion to make things better and improve.  Alongside the day to day challenges of a complex chemical site, people work hard to deliver.

Q. What do you enjoy most about your role?
A. I love working with a committed team of people.  I value the opportunity to be able to coach and develop people and see them grow in their roles (and be coached and developed by them too!). I do enjoy developing and delivering the strategy and plans to make the site and business successful in the long term.

Q. What advice would you give to somebody considering applying to Lucite International?
A. If you like working with people, getting things done, enjoy developing yourself and using all the skills and knowledge you have to support the business, then you will enjoy working here!
