Q. How long have you been at Lucite International??
A. I will have been with the Company for over 17 years. I started off as a Regional Finance Manager for Lucite International APAC and became Financial Controller when Lucite International selected Singapore as the Alpha 1 site.
Q. Describe working for the Company in three words
A. Dynamic (changes/never stagnant or a dull moment, can be challenging as well); Full of Opportunities (plentiful, be it learning, development, achieving); Team spirit. Teamwork is evident everywhere
Q. What do you do in your role on a day to day basis?
A. Financial management of the business/reporting to stakeholders/ensuring compliance in relevant areas/guidance and development of team members/providing guidance to colleagues/peers in relevant areas.
Q. What has your training and development been like?
A. Training has been varied and a plentiful, from role requirements (technical), job requirements (business systems including upgrades) and soft skills (people management). I’ve been fortunate to be given personal coaching to further enhance my coaching skills and the development of team members. One interesting program that I attended, over a duration of 5 months, was the Mitsubishi Chemical (MCC) global leadership training program. It was an enriching experience in that we got to better understand the MCC organization through working with other trainees on the program on a “challenging” project. I have also attended training relating to other functions such as SHE and 5 S and found them very useful.
Q. How would you describe the work environment and Company culture?
A. I would describe it as : “An open door environment” – reduces barriers of miscommunication, improves trust. “No blame culture” – great learning process as people are more willing to put in initiatives and not afraid to make mistakes. Team work is prevalent.
Q. What do you enjoy most about your role?
A. What I enjoy most is the level of interaction and opportunities we have with many members of the group (Lucite International/MCC) in many areas. It has been heartening to see fellow colleagues from the group coming to work together to achieve purposes/successes for the group eg the Alpha 1 project in Singapore and now Alpha 2 in KSA (I am sure this is going to be a success too). I have many good mentors and colleagues, whom are ever willing to impart and share knowledge. I have learnt/am learning from them and they have helped me, in many ways to develop
Q. What advice would you give to somebody considering applying to Lucite International?
A. The Company is an equal opportunity employer. If you are willing to learn, give your best shot, the opportunities and rewards can be limitless. Embrace the values; do not be afraid of hard work, nor afraid of challenges (they are always there!) and taking initiatives. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and grow within a dynamic organisation.
